As I previously mentioned, I love to read and review Food Network Cookbooks. So, imagine how excited I was to receive Bobby Flay’s Throwdown: More than 100 recipes from Food Network’s Ultimate Cooking Challenge book!
If you’ve ever watched Food Network, then I’m sure you’ve at least seen a commercial for this show. Each episode, Bobby travels to a new location to surprise a food expert and to challenge them. Each food expert has their own specialty item that Bobby attempts to make better than them. Bobby invites the community to be at the challenge so that they can try both Bobby’s and the other person’s creation of mastery and then they can vote on who did a better job. Sometimes, Bobby wins. Sometimes, the hometown favorite wins. It really just depends.
This books takes 90 different episodes over 7 seasons and provides you with “files” from those episodes. Each file contains information on the person that Bobby challenged (location, years of making it, food being made, pictures from the episode, etc.). Then, it also contains Bobby’s recipe used in the challenge as well as the challenger’s recipe (this means you get 180 recipes!). It also tells you who won the challenge.
This book does a really good job of giving readers multiple ways to find specific recipes quickly. I appreciate the contents page in the beginning of the book that lists various foods that have been covered and the page numbers that you can find them on. It also breaks down the recipes into season
